BOARDS & COMMISSIONS

In addition to the city officers, the City of Camden utilizes various commissions and committees to oversee different areas of the city. The citizens who serve on the various commissions and committees are all volunteers. The Citizens that server are appointed by the Mayor and approved by the City council, and with few exceptions all members must be a citizen of Camden and live with-in the Corporate City Limits.

Participation

The City of Camden values the input and contributions of its citizenry.  One way the City engages civic participation is through Boards, Committees and commissions. Through engaged citizens, the City is able to utilize their strengths in areas of respective passions to provide guidance and input into matters that affect the quality of life for all Camden residents and visitors.

ADVERTISING & PROMOTIONS COMMISSION

The City of Camden's Advertising and Promotion Commission (A&P Commission) was established to oversee the collection and utilization of taxes levied on the gross receipts from Restaurants, hotel, motel accommodations and hospitality industry. The commission is tasked with utilizing the collected funds to promote advertising, tourism, conventions, park improvements and, other related activities that benefit the local economy. It operates under specific legal guidelines that dictate how the funds can be raised, managed, and spent, focusing on boosting local business visibility, attracting visitors, and enhancing community events. The commission is pivotal in strategic planning for local tourism and economic development, ensuring that the cities remain competitive and appealing to both tourists and residents.

AIRPORT COMMISSION

The City of Camden's Airport Commission is tasked with the duties of overseeing the City of Camden's Municipal Airport. The duties of the Commission are to manage, operate, improve, extend and maintain the municipal airport. The Commission represents the city in all aeronautical issues and protects aerial approaches to the municipal airport.

Camden Housing Authority's mission is to provide the very best, decent, safe, and sanitary housing at an affordable price for our community and the residents while they require our services.

CAMDEN'S PORT ATHOURITY

The City of Camden Port Authority is responsible for overseeing the City of Camden's Ouachita River Port facilities and owns a warehouse and river terminal situated on approximately eight acres near downtown Camden and the Port Authority oversees and additional 83 acers of land along Hwy 7 S near downtown Camden that is available for development. The river terminal remains available for further development and usage. 

CITY- COUNTY LIBRARY BOARD

The purpose of the Board is to provide leadership in performing the mission of the library; to serve as a liaison between the Library and the City and County; and to ensure the Library meets the informational, educational, and recreational needs of the community.

The Library Board is responsible for Library funds, construction, and maintenance of any Library building, policies and planning, and the appointment of the Library Director. Title 13 of the Arkansas Code Annotated governs the establishment and maintenance of public libraries in cities of the first class.

Camden Water and Wastewater Utilities is an Arkansas-based, municipally owned, customer-oriented organization that provides water and wastewater services that meet or exceed industry standards and practices. We provide water to the Frenchport Water Association, Buena Vista Water Association, Harmony Grove Water Association, Wire Rd. Water, and Highway 4 & 24 Water Association.

CIVIL SERVICES COMMISSION

The City of Camden's Civil Service Commission is responsible for promulgating and enforcing rules and regulations governing the Fire and Police Departments. The rules provide the qualifications for applicants for appointment to the Police and Fire Department and provide for open, competitive examination to test the fitness of applicants. In addition, the Civil Service Commission hears appeals by employees of the Fire and Police Departments concerning disciplinary actions.

KEEP CAMDEN BEAUTIFUL

The Keep Camden Beautiful Committee is a community led effort with the goal of city-wide beautification of historic Camden.

PLANNING COMMISSION/BOARD OF ADJUSTMENTS

The general purpose of the Planning Commission is to prepare or have prepared a plan or plans of the municipality, to receive and make recommendations on public and private proposals for development, to prepare and administer planning regulations, to prepare and transmit to the legislative body recommended ordinances implementing plans, and to advice and counsel the city government and other public bodies. The planning Commissioners have the duty and function of promoting public interest in and understanding of the long-term coordinated municipal planning. The Board of Adjustments is responsible for ruling on request for variances from the Zoning Ordinance and appeals from the city staff interpretations.
